Veribest High School Webmastering Class Projects: In the 2011-2012 school year, a Webmastering class for the High School was developed and offered as an elective, to provide diversity in education and further elective opportunities for our secondary students. A curriculum was developed to include training in HTML, DHTML, XHTML, XML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, Visual Basic Scripting (VBScript), as well as Active Server Pages (ASP) and an introduction to Cold Fusion (CF) pages. Webmastering Syllabus
With the first (18) Basic HTML lessons 'under their belt' as well as several Advanced lessons thus far, and a limited amount of Style Sheets incorporated into their web projects; the students are entering into the process of how to post their work to the internet. Folders were established on the Veribest School District website where students could post their work. The process called 'File Transfer Protocol' (FTP) was taught as one of the aspects that a webmaster must do to complete his internet project. Learning how to transfer the website project to the internet host has added an additional challenge to each student at this time in their training. They must now ensure that they post a viable, asthetically pleasing project that performs in a professional manner, and makes them humbly proud. In understanding the overall processes involved, our up-and-coming webmasters better understand the intricasies of building good websites.
Each Webmastering student was asked to select a project of interest that we will now continue to transform as the year of study moves along. These projects are subjects that each student has an interest in and are their choices entirely. The webpages that you are now able to view are an on-going project. They may appear simple at first, however, as the students progress through to the end of the curriculum, I believe our viewers will see very professional projects develop into a real web/internet presence.
As our 'Webmastering Incubator' progresses, audio and video presentations will be incorporated into our projects. As the school year closes, the senior students will have an opportunity to become certified in the many programming languages offered, through an exam associated with the World Wide Web Consortium.
"Please visit and enjoy our student's projects, as they continue to grow, develop, and learn. As the Veribest School District Webmaster, I am exceptionally proud of the progress our students have made in the limited amount of time they have to learn the entire process. I have learned as much as they, and more is still to come, I am sure. It is a teachers goal to share the time when both teacher and student savor a love of the subject. Follow along as we come to fruition!" -- William C. Merry, Sr., Director of Technology
