TAKS Practice Tests,
to 'Assist Parents with Assisting their Children' ...

2003 through 2006 Released TAKS Tests

Veribest Parents and Students: Being prepared for the TAKS tests is essential for each student. Parents can take several steps to provide support for their children and help them prepare for the tests. Here are some tips from the American School Counselor Association:

      - If your child is nervous at test time, ask her teacher for tips on helping him/her relax.
      - Make sure that your child is in school during the testing sessions. Do not plan any doctor or dental
        appointments on test dates.
      - Make sure that you are aware of your child's performance and that you can help interpret the results
        when they become available.
      - Remember to keep well-informed about your child's tests. Know how test results are used, and how they
will affect your child's placement in school.
      - If there are major differences between standardized test scores and school grades, find out why.
      - Encourage your child to study over a period of time rather than "cram" the night before.
      - Encourage your child to listen carefully to all test-taking directions given by the teacher and to ask
questions about any directions that are unclear.
      - See that your child gets his/her regular amount of sleep before the tests and is well-rested.
      - Make sure that your child eats his/her usual breakfast on the day of the test. Hunger can detract from
        a good test performance.
      - Encourage your child to do his/her best.

Below is a list of (actual) past TAKS Tests for every grade and subject. All tests can be printed out on your computer at home or at work. These tests are exactly like the tests our children will be taking, so the experience is REAL. Also included are links to study guides and parent guides for helping your student(s).

Each item on the answer keys for TAKS includes the objective measured. In addition, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) student expectation is also included for each item. The objectives, which are the reporting units for each test, are consistent from year to year. However, since not all student expectations are tested each year, the specific student expectations tested may vary from one test administration to another. Some student expectations will be included each year, while others will not. The student expectations selected for a test are representative of the range of content and difficulty eligible for each objective being assessed. Some items could possibly have been classified under more than one student expectation; in such cases, educator committee members helped TEA staff reach consensus on the best alignment of an item.

The intent of showing both the objective and the student expectation for each item on the TAKS answer keys is to help school personnel better analyze test results. Such analysis clarifies the connection between curriculum and assessment, and may be used to improve instructional programs.
