Wes Brown, Elementary School Principal Veribest Independent School District Phone: 325.655.2851 Fax: 325.655.3355 wes.brown@veribestisd.net
Mr. Wes Brown will be joining the administrative team for Veribest ISD as the Elementary Principal for the 2009-2010 school year. Mr. Brown was reared in Cross Plains, TX and graduated from Cross Plains High. He originally began his collegiate studies at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX on a music scholarship, but transferred to McMurry University in Abilene where he eventually earned his BA in Sociology and Religion while serving as a youth minister in a small rural church. After several years of working as a caseworker for troubled youth and as an administrator in social services, Mr. Brown earned his M. Ed. in Counseling and Human Development from Hardin Simmons University. He then went into private practice for a year primarily working with geriatric clients and their families who were dealing with the issues of dementia and mental illness. He then returned to college and completed a year of coursework to earn his teaching certificate as an elementary teacher and began his career in education. Later, Mr. Brown attended the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and completed graduate work to fulfill certification as a school principal. While working in education, Mr. Brown has taught in second, third, fourth and fifth grade. He has specialized in Math and Science, but has also taught Writing, Music and Art. He has served as a Dyslexia Specialist and an Elementary Gifted and Talented Coordinator. He has also contributed in the secondary as a One-Act Play Director and CX Debate Coach. Mr. Brown is married and has four children. His wife, Amy, will also be joining the faculty at Veribest ISD while Brianna, Brandon, Benjamin, and Belinda will all attend Veribest schools.
“My family and I are very excited about being a part of the Veribest community and hope to assist in continuing the traditions of excellence that have been established here!” - Wes Brown
Texas Education Agency 'Exemplary' Campus Recognition The Texas Education Agency accountability ratings system rates all public schools, charter schools, and school districts in the State of Texas. The criteria are the same for schools and districts. Based on how the school or district performs, the school or district will receive one of four possible rankings: Exemplary (the highest possible ranking), Recognized, Academically Acceptable, and Academically Unacceptable (the lowest possible ranking). Veribest Elementary School: Teacher's Web Page and 'Blog' Links: How Do You Define a Teacher: Teachers impact our students more by their character than by their communication. People learn best by example, not by direct instruction. “Actions speak louder than words.” As a teacher they must move from being a mere “dispenser of information” to a mentor and organizer of the learning process.
